Arthur Silvia, 96, of Fall River died on October 17, 2012. He was the husband of Evelyn (Cardoza) Silvia for 59 years. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Antonia and Joseph Silvia.
Mr. Silvia served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Tech Sergeant in the Philippines. After being honorably discharged in 1946, he worked in the grocery business for many years then was the owner of Arthur’s Package Store before moving on to work for the City of Fall River.
He lived in Fall River his whole life and was an active member of Our Lady of the Angels Parish as a member of the Holy Name Society. Later he attended St. Stanislaus Church where he served as an Extraordinary Minister of Communion. He and his wife also served as Extraordinary Ministers of Communion at Ste. Anne’s Hospital for many years.
He is survived by four children, Mary Jane Silvia of Manchester, NH, Arthur J. Silvia, and Anne Marie Silvia of Fall River, and Joseph H. Silvia and his wife JoAnn (Centrilla) Silvia of Richmond, RI. He also leaves seven grandchildren. His brothers & sisters predeceased him
His funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, INC. 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on SATURDAY at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Stanislaus Church, 40 Rockland Street, Fall River at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery.
