Obituary

NEW BEDFORD — David S. Schell, age 81 years, a lifelong resident of Dartmouth, died Saturday, October 13, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital after a months struggle from multiple complications.

Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Charles C. and Elizabeth M. (Moore) Schell. He was a graduate of Dartmouth High School Class of 1949 and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

David retired in 1989 after 34 years with New England Telephone Co./NYNEX. He was a member of the Congregational Church of South Dartmouth and the Antique Out-board Motor Club-Yankee Chapter.

Survivors include his family, Allan C. (Shirley) Schell, Ruth S. Porter (Pamela Morrison), Jacqueline A. Mello; nieces, Alice Rosalind Schell, Cynthia Bosch, Sarana Schell, Lisa Marie Blood; nephew, Shaun M. Mello; grand niece and nephew, Kai Schell and Briana Blood.

He was the husband of the late Barbara Jean (Vieira) Schell, brother of the late Donald M. Schell, and uncle of the late Kevin Joseph Mello.

Also surviving is his dear friend and companion of sixteen years Debbie Clark.

Calling hours will be on Sunday, October 21st from 1:30 to 2:30 in the library of the Congregational Church of South Dartmouth with a memorial service in the church at 2:30 p.m. Private burial will take place in Rural Cemetery.
