Herman Miller, 80, of New Bedford died Monday October 15, 2012 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Vera (Houtman) Miller.
Born in Olar, Bamberg County, South Carolina, the son of the late Herman and Cressie (Ray) Miller, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Mr. Miller served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years until his retirement in 1972. He later worked for Codman and Shurtleff in New Bedford.
Survivors include his wife; his siblings, Joseph, James, Terry, and Marsha; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Holley, Eugene Underwood, Jr., and Tracy Underwood; his very good friend, David Feliciano; two great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; 18 nieces and nephews; and his little dog, Lola.
He was the father of the late Eugene "Butch" Underwood.
A private burial service with military honors was held on Friday afternoon at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Arrangements were by the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
