Jessie Mary ( Crouch) Spencer, age 89, of Mystic, died Sunday at The Westerly Hospital after extended illnesses.
Mrs. Spencer was born on March 10, 1915 in Mobile, AL the daughter of Arthur and Ruth Emma (Shafer) Crouch. She was a 1934 graduate of Robert E. Fitch High School in Groton.
She was first married to Earle F. Spencer in Groton on September 4, 1935. After his death, she married Richard L. Spencer.
Mrs. Spencer was an employed at Durham Enders Co. for 15 years, Edward Weck Co., and as an inspector at Squibb Medical Supplies for 10 years, retiring in 1979.
She was a member of the Old Mystic Baptict Church for more than 52 years.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Spencer leaves her children, Earle F. Spencer Jr. of Old Saybrook and Joan G. Watkins of Ledyard, 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Arthur Crouch of Tampa, Fla.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Lavina Bower and Margaret Howard.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at The Old Mystic Baptist Church, Shewville Road, Old Mystic, on Friday at 11am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. The Rev. Lisabeth M. Gustafson, Pastor will officiate.
Private burial will precede the service in Lambtown Cemetery, Ledyard. There are no visiting hours.
Donations in Mrs. Spencer's memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
