Obituary

SALEM- Helen A. (Siwkoska) Carter, 81, wife of the late Theron D. Carter, II, of Essex, formerly of Salem, died Monday morning, June 7, 2004 in the Salem Hospital following a short illness.

Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Stanislaus & Marianna (Radjimska) Siwkoski. She was a graduate of Salem High School in 1940.

Prior to her retirement in 1990, she was employed in retailing for over 30 years, much of that time as a clothing buyer for David Specialty Shops in Connecticut.

Mrs. Carter was a resident of Essex for the past twelve years. She previously resided in Connecticut for 25 years after moving from Salem. She was a member and past president of the Essex Council on Aging and enjoyed line dancing and dominoes.

She is survived by five children, Cathy Monahan of Swampscott, Philip & his wife Terry Carter of Ludlow, Vermont, Debra and her husband Robert Carr, and Theron D. Carter, III, all of Beverly, Cmdr Christopher Carter, USN, and his wife Donna of Melbourne, Florida, 12 grandchildren, Kim, and Sara Monahan of Swampscott, Ian, Justin, Seth and Tianna Carr of Beverly, Rachel, Mary and Emma Carter of Ludlow, VT, Theresa Carter of Lynn, Kiley and Jason Carter of Melbourne, FL, one sister, Amelia and her husband Gardner Hamlen of Essex, several nieces, nephews and her devoted Chow Chow, “Wuffy.”

Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 10, 2004 at 9 am from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 am at the St. John The Baptist Church, Salem. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours are Wednesday, 3 to 7 pm. A private burial service will be held at the convenience of the family in the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown, CT.
