Esther M. Cannizzo, age 88, of Norton, died October 11, 2012 at the Southeast Health Care Center in North Easton following a lengthy illness. She was the wife for 45 years of the late Gregory P. Cannizzo. Born, raised and educated in North Adams, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Viola (Charron) Kenyon. For many years, Esther and her husband worked for the Avon Sole Company, where Esther was a union representative. Following her retirement they moved to Wareham where Esther was employed by the Wareham School Department as a baker. She was famous for her delicious baked goods and her cheerful willingness to work for “her boys” on the school’s football team. Esther was a member of the Degree of Pocahontas, a Women’s Auxiliary of the Order of the Red Men in Wareham and the Norton Senior Center where she served as a past president of the Friends of the Senior Center. She enjoyed gardening, bingo, and playing cards and was known for her sharp wit and “feistiness” She also enjoyed traveling with her husband and in later years with her sister Louise. Esther was a loyal friend who laughed often, and made a difference to those she knew.
She is survived by her daughter, Jean St. Jean and her husband Louis of Swansea, a son Francis Cannizzo and his wife Carol of Middleboro; four grandchildren, Michelle Pina of Taunton, Tracy Green of Stoughton and Jennifer and Francis Cannizzo, Jr. of Middleboro; nine great grandchildren; a sister Louise Lincoln of Clifton Park, NY, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her close friends and caretakers Jim Densel and Helen Oliver. She was the mother of the late Gregory Cannizzo, Jr., and sister of her late twin brother Ernest, and Arthur and Alfred Kenyon and Nora Carter.
Funeral Services were held on Monday October 15, 2012.
