Evelyn M. Gilbert Carrington, 83, of Tifton died Monday, October 15, 2012, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Rev. John Cone will officiate with burial to follow. Rocky Carrington, Chad Scarbor, Brad Scarbor, Walt Dunn, Jerry Burch and Jimmy Norman will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mrs. Carrington was born on August 28, 1929 in Cairo and was the daughter of Joe Brown Gilbert and Lois Sellers Gilbert, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, L. H. “Hoke” Carrington, who died in 1996. She was a homemaker, a wonderful mother and was a member of Unity Baptist Church in Tifton.
Mrs. Carrington is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Shirley Carrington of Tifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Jeannie and Jim Harnage of Omega; two brothers, Jimmy Gilbert of Sylvester and Robert Gilbert of Tifton; one sister, Betty Sue Cordele of Florida; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
