Obituary

Louise Norman Sumner, 85, of Tifton died Sunday, October 14, 2012, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 18, 2012, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Dr. Wayne Roe and Jake Sumner, grandson, will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Lawton Bassett, Alexander Kemp, Andy Sumner, Blake Sumner, George Sumner and Joe McSpadden will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mrs. Sumner was born on June 2, 1927 in Colquitt County and was the daughter of John T. Norman and Minnie Norvella Norman, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, J. T. Sumner; three brothers, Turner William “Bill” Norman, Lewis Norman and John Norman. She was salutatorian of the Tifton High School Class of 1944. She was co-owner of Norman’s Dress Shop, as well as a devoted wife and mother. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church, serving as president of the WMU, teacher of youth girls and a loyal choir member for many years, as well as treasurer of the Ann Hammon Sunday school class.

Mrs. Sumner is survived by one daughter, Sandra Kemp of Tifton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Telie Sumner of Tifton and Daryl and Sherrie Sumner of Macon; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jim and Virginia Zerhusen Champion and Marion and Billy Heath, all of Tifton; five grandchildren and their spouses, Alexander and Leilah Kemp, Andy and Jessica Sumner, Blake Sumner, Jake and Hannah Sumner and Tee and Joe McSpadden; and five great-grandchildren, Charlie Kemp, Mavis and Camille Sumner and Zoey and Jude McSpadden.
