Maria E. Moreira, 85, of New Bedford died Tuesday October 9, 2012 at St. Lukes Hospital after a brief Illness.
Born In Porto de Mos, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Maria Moreira and Antonio deAraujo. She has lived in New Bedford for the last 40 years.
For 30 years, Ms. Moreira was employeed by the Portuguese Channel as the weekly cook after working many other domestic jobs.
Survivors include her brother Augusto deAraujo and wife Dezideria of New Bedford, nieces Isabel Santos, Theresa Santos, nephews Abel Araujo, Victor Araujo, Joe Araujo, Paul deAraujo, To’ Araujo and Paul Araujo. Maria is also survived by several great-nieces and nephews.
Ms. Moreira was the sister of the late Hilda Moreira and the late Antonio Araujo.
Ms. Moreira’s funeral will be from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. on Friday at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 5 - 7 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited. The family of Maria would like to give special thanks to her good friend Helena Medeiros.
