Fall River – Joaquina N. (Freitas) Sousa, 92, of Westport, died Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of Jordao N. Sousa. Born in Madeira, She was a daughter of the late Joaquim R. and Joaquina (Freitas) Antunes.
She was a communicant of St. George Church, Westport. Prior to her retirement she had worked as a machine operator for the former Shelburn and Pen-Jay Clothing Company. Mrs. Sousa was a member of the I.L.G.W.U. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. In addition to her husband she is survived by a son: Jordao S. DeSousa of Brentwood, NH; 2 daughters: Maria Sousa of Westport and Conceicao Medeiros of Fall River; 2 brothers: Jose Antunes of Fall River and Manuel R. Antunes of Brazil; a Sister: Sister Conceicao R. Antunes of Lisbon; 10 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Manuel N. Sousa and sister of the late: Merces R. Antunes, Adelaide Freitas and Sister Maria Antunes.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be Thursday at 9:00 A.M. from Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at St. George Church, Westport.
Calling hours will be Wednesday 5-8 P.M.
Interment in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
