Obituary

Roger A. "Bucky" Bachand, 88, of New Bedford died Sunday October 7, 2012 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Beatrice I. (Montminy) Bachand; they had been married for 63 years.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Adrian and Germaine (Richard) Bachand, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.

He was a communicant of St. Joseph-St. Therese Church.

Mr. Bachand was formerly employed as a driver/salesman for Coyne Industrial Laundry until his retirement.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy as a Gunner's Mate 2nd Class on LST-249 in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.

As an avid bowler of various leagues and secretary of the Adams Restaurant/Dee's Hot Dogs Friday Bowling League, he was inducted into the Bowlers Hall of Fame. He also played hockey for King of Pizza until the age of 55. He was an avid fan of all Boston sports teams, especially the Boston Bruins. He was a member of Teamsters Union Local 59.

Survivors include his wife; four children, Paul Bachand of Altamonte Springs, FL, Ronald Bachand of Acushnet, Jeannine Picard and her husband Paul of Lakeville, and Diane Martin and her husband Robert of New Bedford; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Martin; a brother, Atty. Richard Bachand of Scituate; and nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Donald Bachand, Jeanne Cardoza, Rene Bachand, and Juliette Steliga.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 AM at St. Joseph-St. Therese Church. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 4-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
