CHICOPEE – Wanda V. (Jagla) Martel, 89, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, October 1, 2012. She passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Holyoke on November 20, 1922, a beloved daughter of the late Andrew and Bertha (Mrowicki) Jagla. She was raised in Long Island, NY, attended Long Island schools, and moved to the Aldenville section of Chicopee in 1946 where she lived for the remainder of her life. She was a longtime communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. Wanda was a quiet woman who adored her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Marcel R. Martel who died on May 29, 1992. She leaves her four loving children, Joan M. Mathews with whom she lived, Paul E. Martel and his wife, Joan, of Chicopee, Ronald E. Martel and his wife, Michelle, of York, PA, and Dennis R. Martel of Port Orange, FL; her nine grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren; her two sisters, Helen Ash of Chicopee and Lottie Boduch of Ludlow; her sister in law, Adele Jagla of Chicopee; and her many nephews and nieces. Besides her beloved parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Edward Jagla and her sister, Emily Champagne. Her family will receive friends at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 on Tuesday morning, October 9, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. which will be followed by a Prayer Service in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Her burial will follow the service at Saint Stanislaus Cemetery, 800 Montgomery Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 264 Cottage Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
