Tom Stapleton, 76, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Friday, October 5, 2012, at Crossview Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Parmer and the Rev. Olan Witt officiating. The Eulogy will be given by his grandson, Joel Stapleton. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home in Fitzgerald from 7-9 Thursday evening.
Mr. Stapleton was born March 21, 1936 in Fitzgerald to the late Lee Andrew Stapleton, Sr. and Myrtice Purvis Stapleton. He lived in the community all of his life. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Germany. He was a retired Lieutenant with the Fitzgerald Fire Dept. and was the former owner and operator of Stapleton’s Carpet and Flooring. He was a member of the Georgia Fire Fighters Association and a member of Crossview Baptist Church. He was a former RA leader and on the building committee of Northside Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife: Carol Faye Hunter Stapleton of Fitzgerald; two sons and daughter-in-law: Mark & Tammie Stapleton of Tifton, Greg Stapleton of Fitzgerald; one grandson: Joel & Ashley Stapleton of Gadsden, Alabama; two great-grandsons: Will and Sam Stapleton; two sisters: Ethel (Jim) Drexler of Fitzgerald, Shirley Yeager of Moultrie, sister-in-law: Estelle Stapleton of Fitzgerald and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers: Lee Stapleton, Jr. and twin Buck Stapleton; two sisters: Mary Jane Dorminy and Rudene Taylor.
