NORTH ANDOVER - Marcia Jean (Uebbing) Brown, age 67, died unexpectedly, on Thursday, September 27, 2012. The daughter of the late Dorothy (Perry) and Albert Uebbing, she was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 29, 1944. She was a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist and graduated valedictorian of Maria High School in 1962. She received an academic scholarship to Mundelein College and graduated salutatorian in 1966. She went on to earn her Master’s Degree in mathematics from the University of Illinois at Champaign in 1967. Later she returned to the University of Illinois at Champaign to earn a Master’s Degree in computer science in 1982.
Married to Terrence J. Brown on August 26, 1967, she worked as a college instructor and computer scientist at Digital Equipment Corporation. In 1984, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, which forced her to retire shortly thereafter. Despite the growing difficulties of her disease, Marcia continued to attend church weekly.
She was an avid tennis fan and converted from a White Sox fan to a Red Sox fan after moving to Massachusetts. She enjoyed spending time watching her grandchildren play.
She is survived by her husband Terry; daughter Lizetta Fennessy and her husband James of North Andover; son Michael of North Andover; and daughter Christine Albert and her husband Brian of Pittsburgh; grandchildren Meghan, Erin and Laura Fennessy; and Casey, Gavin and Liam Albert; along with five siblings: John and wife Roberta Uebbing of Palo Alto, CA; Sr. Mary Ann Uebbing, CSC, of South Bend, IN; Christine O'Hare of Fairfax, VA; Jane and husband Dinh Huynh of Inverness, IL; and Thomas and wife Marian Uebbing of South Bend, IN; sister in law, Sharon Alan of Glendale, CA and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank the staff of Wingate at Andover for their loving care of Marcia.
Friends and family respectfully attended calling hours on Thursday, October 4, 2012, from 5 to 7 pm at the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover. Her funeral mass was celebrated at St. Patrick Church, Lawrence, on Friday, October 5th, 2012, at 11 am. Interment was held in Ridgewood Cemetery in North Andover.
