Leo F. Collins, Sr. (1924-2012) of Plymouth, formerly of Marshfield, passed away September 27, 2012 after a long illness. He was 88 years old. Born in Boston of the late Winifred Clarke and Edward Collins, Sr. He was the loving husband of Martha (Linnett) Collins with whom he celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in August of this year. Leo served on the aircraft carrier Hornet CV12 from 1943 to 1945 and was awarded eleven battle stars for his service in the Pacific during World War II.
He was the loving father of daughters Kathleen Collins of Willows, CA; Linda Collins and husband Eugene Porter of Oakland, CA; Margaret Collins and husband Darrell Odland of Vacaville, CA; and of sons Leo Collins, Jr. and wife Lorraine Collins of Marshfield, MA; David Collins and wife Megan Collins of Mamoranack, NY; and also of daughter Sarah Collins of Plymouth, MA. Survived by grandchildren Matthew Corrow, Sonja Corrow and Kevin Wright and of Natalie Porter of California and of Daniel Collins, Matthew Collins and Liam Collins of Massachusetts.
He was a graduate of North Quincy High School and of Boston University with a bachelor’s degree in Education. He taught at Mass Fields School in Quincy, MA and the Jenkins School in Scituate, MA before entering the publishing business, serving Catholic schools in New England before retiring in 1987 to Port Medway, Nova Scotia and Deland, Florida.
He was the loving brother of Marie (Collins) Manning and husband Edward Manning of Hanover, MA (now deceased); Edward Collins and wife Barbara of Braintree, MA (now deceased) Paul Collins and wife Barbara of Squantum, MA (now deceased); Robert Collins and wife Lillian of Falls Church, VA; and of Richard Collins and wife Sandra of Quincy, MA as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 from 4 to 8 p.m. at MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean St., Rte 139 Marshfield. Funeral from the funeral home on October 3 at 8:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Christine’s Church, 1295 Main St. Rte 3A, Marshfield at 9:00 a.m. Interment in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 11:30 a.m.
