Florence M. Callahan, of Billerica formerly of Woburn passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, September 27th. She was 84. Born in Melrose she was the daughter of the late Harold A. and Mary (Coyne) McGann.
Florence was raised and educated in Wakefield and was a graduate of Wakefield High School and was also a proud member of the high school cheerleading squad. Florence was the wife of Charles P. Callahan Sr. and for many years was instrumental in running and managing the family business, W.P. Callahan Plumbing of Woburn. In more recent years she served as a bus monitor in the Billerica Public School System. Throughout her life and especially when she was raising her children, Florence enjoyed traveling to Maine and New Hampshire for family vacations. The family loved spending time together at Wells Beach in Maine. Family meant everything to Florence and she always looked forward to the family getting together for Sunday diners when she would cook and prepare a delicious meal for her entire family. Florence also had a strong catholic faith which brought her great comfort and peace through both good and difficult times in her life.
Along with her husband Charles P. Callahan Sr., She is survived by her devoted children, Maureen Wickwire and her husband Doug, Charles P. Callahan and his wife Janet, Harry Callahan and his wife Paula, Bob Callahan all of Woburn, and Mary Soloski and her husband Terry of Billerica. She is also survived by twenty loving grandchildren and nine loving great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her sister, the late Margaret Egan.
Funeral services will be held from the McLaughlin – Dello Russo Funeral Home 60 Pleasant St., Woburn, Monday, October 1st, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Charles Church, 280 Main St. Woburn, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be held on Sunday from 4 thru 8 p.m. Services will conclude with burial at St. Patrick Cemetery, Stoneham. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Florence’s memory to the Special Olympics MA, Attn: Donations, Yawkey Sports Training Center, 512 Forest St., Marlboro, MA 01752.
