Obituary

William H. “Bill” Smith 73, of Rockland, died Wednesday September 26 in the New England Sinai Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Patricia “Patsy” (Batz) Smith.

Born in Brockton he was the son of the late William V. and Geraldine (Damon) Smith. Bill had been raised in Whitman before his move to Gloversville, NY where he was a graduate of Gloversville High School, Class of 1956.

Bill went on to further his education earning his associate degree in accounting from the School of Business at Bentley College, and before his retirement, had worked as an accountant for the Stop & Shop Company.

He had been a proud Veteran having served the in the US Marines from 1956-1960.

He was a longtime and active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #841 of Rockland as well as the Hanson Athletic Association, and had been an active participant of the Whitman VFW Post 697 for many years.

In addition to his wife Patsy he is survived by his children, William V. Smith of Florida, Colleen Egan and her husband Stephen of Whitman and Sheri Campbell and her husband Brian of Carver and his sisters Eva Walther and Judy Smith both of Whitman. He is also survived by his grandchildren, whom he adored, William and Steve Smith of Maine and Stephen and Casey Egan of Whitman as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Hank Walther.

His funeral service will be held Monday October 1 at 10:00 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St. (Rte. 58 at the Rotary Circle) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Northville Cemetery, East Bridgewater. Visitation will be held Sunday September 30 from 2:00-6:00 PM. Donations in his name may be made to the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #841 Charity Fund, 29 Park Street, Rockland, MA 02370.
