James H. Clapp, of Plymouth, died peacefully at home with family at his side on September 24th at the age of 88. The beloved husband of the late Louise (Jannell), he is survived by his loving children James H. Clapp Jr. of Buford, GA; Edward M. Clapp and his wife Toni of Kingston, Peter R. Clapp of Plymouth, Susan C. Cecil and her husband Peter of Ft. Collins, CO; Dorothy Hodgkins and her husband Douglas of Plymouth and Joseph W. Clapp and his wife Lauren of Marshfield. He also leaves his 9 cherished grandchildren and his brother Charles R. Clapp of Stockton Springs, ME. He was the brother of the late Augustus Clapp Jr.
Born in Boston, he graduated from Thayer Academy and attended Harvard University and Brown University. He served in the U.S. Navy as a flight instructor during WWII. James was an auto dealer for many years and was a member of the Kiwani’s in Weymouth, a long standing member of the Plymouth Yacht Club and served on the Board of Trustees at South Shore Hospital and the Board of Directors at South Weymouth Savings Bank. He had enjoyed boats. wood working and especially spending time with his family.
Visiting hours will be held at the Richard Davis Funeral Home, 619 State Rd (Rt 3A), Plymouth (Manomet) on Tuesday, October 2nd from 4 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 3rd at the Church of the Pilgrimage, Town Square, Plymouth at 10 AM followed by burial at Chiltonville Cemetery in Plymouth. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Cranberry Hospice, 36 Cordage Park Cr, Suite 326, Plymouth, MA 02360.
