
James C. Pickens

James C. Pickens, 83, went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 24, 2012, while surrounded by several family and friends in his home.
James was born August 7, 1929 in Charleston, West Virginia to Samuel Maxwell Pickens II and Mabel Jane (Hastings) Pickens where he lived and graduated fin 1948 from Charleston High School in WV. He also attended Anderson College.
He was a machine repairman for Delco Remy 40 years before retiring September 1, 1991.
He attended Alexandria Church of God where he was active as youth leader, and served on many boards of the church for many years. He founded Recycler's Bicycle Ministry 25 years ago.
He is survived by his wife, Armetta Louise (Jarvis) Pickens of Anderson whom he married June 20, 1950 in Anderson; his 3 children Jerry Wayne Pickens of Denver, CO; Donald Edward (JoAnn) Pickens of St. Louis, MO; and Sharon Kay (Jeff) Tighe of Pendleton; siblings: Samuel M. (Juel) Pickens of Bim, WV; Thomas H. (Barbara) Pickens of Oak Ridge, TN; William W. Pickens; Joseph E. Pickens; Mabel Jane Hopkins; Nellie T. Pilcher all of Sanford, FL; 6 grandchildren Michael (Jennifer) Pickens; Jessica (Brandon) McNeely; Stephen Pickens; Ashley (Rob) Blevins; Cpl. Andrew James (Sarah) Saltsman; Andrea Pickens and Bridget Tighe; 4 great grandchildren: Kylee Pickens; Caleb Pickens; Kai McNeely, Anya Blevins; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Cecelia Heal.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 28, at 11:00 A.M. at Alexandria Church of God with Pastor Tom Schuurman and Dr. Arlo Newell. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Thursday, September 27 from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service and on Friday 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Community Hospital 3rd Floor staff for their loving care to Jim and his family.
