JOHN D. BREWER, JR., age 82, a Hingham resident for the past 52 years, died at his home after a long illness on Thursday, May 27th. Mr. Brewer was born in Plymouth and was a 1940 graduate of Plymouth High School and then graduated from Amherst College in 1945. During World War II, he served as a lieutenant in the Pacific Fleet in the United States Navy.For many years Mr. Brewer was vice president of State Street Bank & Trust in Boston.He and his wife Alice (Hedge) Brewer came to Hingham in 1952. During his years in Hingham, he was a past trustee and treasurer of Derby Academy and the South Shore Conservatory of Music. An avid sailor, he was a past treasurer of the Hingham Yacht Club. In addition, he served two terms on the Hingham Advisory Board as well as being on the advisory board of the Hingham Visiting Nurses Association.He is survived by his loving wife Alice, and daughters Marion D. Brewer of Weymouth and Alice P. Brewer of Fairhaven; his son John D. Brewer, III of Martha's Vineyard and granddaughter, Mia Lixia Bekemeier of Fairhaven. Mr. Brewer also leaves his sister, Helen B. Chadwick of Plymouth.A Memorial Service will be conducted on Monday, June 7th at 1:30 PM at the Second Parish Church, 685 Main St. (Rt. 228), Hingham, MA 02043.The interment in Vine Hill Cemetery in Plymouth was private.In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory would be preferred to the Second Parish Church.
