Joseph Bonfilio, age 90, Golf Club Champion, Salesman, died on Thursday January 31, 2002 at the Delray Medical Center, Delray Beach, Florida. He was the husband of Eleanor M. (Piccolo) Bonfilio, for more than 62 years.
He was born in Boston, March 7, 1911, a son of the late Antonio and Concetta (Venuti) Bonfilio. He was raised in Belmont and graduated from Belmont High School. Joseph was a Medford resident for 62 years and a communicant of St. Josephs Church in Medford.
He was an avid athlete, earning five varsity letters during his Belmont High School career, he was Captain of the hockey team, and also participated in the golf, baseball, and track. Mr. Bonifilio was also an excellent golfer in his later years, claiming victory to the Andover Country Club's annual golf tournament five times. Joseph was employed as a Salesman for over forty years for the C. Pappas Liquors in Boston. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons and daughters-in-laws; Edward J. and his wife Claire L. Bonfilio of Brookline, James E. and Dolores "Lola" Bonfilio of Winchester and Ronald J. and his wife Luana Bonfilio of Washington, D.C. Devoted brother of Lena Bonfilio of Belmont, Rose Bella and Jennie Napoli, both of Florida, and the late Frank Bonfilio. Cherished grandfather of James A. and his wife Kimberly, Lisa A., Anthony, Diana C., and Andrew R. Bonfilio and Brianna Moore. Great grandfather of Anthony J. Bonfilio. Funeral from the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock, followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph's Church, 118 High Street, Medford at 11 o'clock. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours, Tuesday from 4 to 8 PM. Interment, Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
