BALLANTINE Clara Estes (“Peggy”), of Dover, MA, died peacefully at home Sept. 18, 2012, age 95. Born in 1916 in Constantinople (Istanbul), and raised in Turkey, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. Estes and the late Caroline (Lee) Estes.
Peggy and her beloved husband, the late Jerry T. Ballantine, raised their children in Acton, MA, and spent their retirement in North Berwick, ME. She spent her final years in Dover. She was the loving mother of Charles E. Ballantine and his wife, Irene, of Chelmsford, MA, Judy Ballantine and her husband, Kevin Luey, of Dover, MA, and Janet Albee and her husband, Peter, of Upton, MA.
She was the beloved grandmother of Ollie Luey, the sister of the late Charles L. (Chop) Estes and aunt of Nancy Estes of Conakry, Guinea, Africa, and Richard (Chip) Estes, DVM, of Ocala, FL.
Peggy attended Oberlin College and graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art. In midlife she earned a Masters in Education at BU and went on to be a reading specialist in the Acton, MA, and South Berwick, ME, elementary schools. She loved teaching, gardening and nature and animals. Her hand designed, hand dyed and hooked rugs in the primitive style were beautiful works of art. She had a long and good life and will be greatly missed. Services to be private.
