Obituary

Abington – Wilhelmina (Ward) Messier 88, died Thursday September 20 after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of 68 years to the late Francis Messier, Jr.

Born in Southwest Harbor, Maine she was the daughter of the late Malcolm and Margaret (Ellis) Ward, and had been a graduate Brockton High School.

Wilhelmina had been a resident of Abington for over sixty-five years, where she along with her husband Francis had raised their six children, and she had been a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Abington. After her children had grown, she was a familiar face working for many years in the office of the town accountant at the Abington Town Hall.

She loved knitting and willingly shared her talents with the various items she made for family and friends. She had enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles.

She is survived by her loving children Richard Messier of Duxbury, Joyce Ludington of Florida, Barbara Rosenthal of Vermont, Patricia Louis of Hanson, Judy Lavoie of Maine and Ann MacKenzie of Middleboro, her brothers Wayne Ward of Halifax and David Ward of Plymouth as well as twelve grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her granddaughter Dennise Messier, her sister Hilda Wallent and her brothers Charles and George Ward.

Her funeral service will be held Monday September 24 at 10 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Abington. Visiting hours will be held Sunday September 23 from 3-7 PM.
