Mr. George F. Meier, a longtime resident of Medford and beloved husband of the late Irene (Lopes) Meier, died at the Miriam Boyd Parlin Residence in Wayland on Tuesday morning, September 18, 2012. He was 87 years old.
Born in South Boston, Massachusetts, on February 19, 1925, George was the beloved son of the late George F. and Ethel (McCarthy) Meier. George served in the Merchant Marines and received his honorable discharge on July 13, 1945.
In civilian life, Mr. Meier worked as a Quality Control Inspector for Hersey Products Inc., in Boston, a position he held for more than 42 years.
Mr. Meier will be sorely missed by his loving children; Stephen and his wife Judy Meier of Wilmington, Kathleen Gregson of Clinton, Susan and her husband Frank Keane of San Diego, Judith and her husband George Lambros of Sandwich and Maryann and her husband Garry Famigietti of Sandwich, brother; Robert Meier of Clearwater, Florida, eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. George was also the devoted brother of the late Donald, Gerald, and William Meier.
His funeral service was celebrated in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Ave., Medford, Friday, September 21, 2012, at 11 AM. Visiting hours were on Thursday, September 20, 2012, from 5 to 8 PM. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. WWII Merchant Marine Veteran.
