James “Jim” Taylor Bowie, age 70, died Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at his home in Water Valley, MS. He was born July 7, 1942 in Bruce, MS to the late James M. Bowie and Ada Jewel (Smith) Frost. Jim was a property owner and property manager, he retired from the logging industry and he retired from Emerson Electric where he was employed as plant supervisor. He was a member of the Shriner’s organization, served as Grand Master of Masonic Lodge #34 of Water Valley and served as Grand Master in the Odd Fellows. Jim was a Baptist and loved Jesus Christ, he enjoyed helping his neighbors and the community and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 20, 2012 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS. Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 21, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks with Bro. Jerry Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Water Valley, MS.
Jim is survived by his wife, Bobbie Jenkins Bowie of Water Valley, MS; one daughter, Kas-Sondra Bowie Massey (Steve) of Water Valley, MS; a step-daughter, Melissa Whitehead (Steve) of Independence, MS; one son, Randy Michael Bowie (Susan) of Houston, TX; three step-sons, Mike Tatum (Cindy) of Taylor, MS, John Tatum (Julie) of Ft. Smith, AR and Tim Tatum of Oxford, MS; three sisters, Clara Pearl Cobb (Bill) of Texarkana, AR, Sonya Bowie of Ackerman, MS and Cheryl Dykes (Larry Joe) of Ocean Springs, MS; two brothers, Sam Bowie (Barbara)of Ackerman, MS and Paul Frost of Baton Rouge, LA; five grandchildren, Amber Mooney, Autumn Mooney, Presley Defer, Sam Bowie and Amelia Bowie; five step-grandchildren, Gracie Tatum, Garrett Tatum, Amanda Whitehead, Jennifer Whitehead and Amy Whitehead.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Nicole Gaye Bowie; a sister, Yvonne Frost; and two brothers, David Bowie and Terry Bowie.
