Joan F. McVey
…Beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother
TEWKSBURY – Joan F. (Shaughnessy) McVey, age 79, owner of T. H. McVey Stone Co. died Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at Lowell General Hospital – Saint’s Campus in Lowell, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas H. McVey III, who predeceased her in 2009.
She was born August 27, 1933 and was raised in Brighton, a daughter of the late Francis and Stephanie (Buck) Shaughnessy. She was a member of the 1951 graduating class of Brighton High School. Following graduation, she worked as an operator for the phone company in Boston. She moved to Tewksbury in 1962 to raise her family where she was also a communicant and member of Sodality at St. William’s Church.
In 1989, after raising her children, Joan and her husband relocated to a beach condominium in Revere, where she enjoyed many happy times with her children and grandchildren. She continued to work with her husband and sons in their multi-generational family business in Watertown. She returned to Tewksbury in 2009, and spent summer weekends in Wells, Maine with her family.
Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. Her caring devotion to her loved ones will be missed.

She is survived by four children and their spouses, Karen (McVey) Ryan and her husband James of Tewksbury, Susan (McVey) Tucceri and her husband Paul of Tewksbury, Thomas E. McVey of Revere, Robert J. McVey and his wife Robin (Doherty) of Tewksbury; a brother, Frank Shaughnessy of Marshfield; a sister, Ellen Giachetti of Rockland; a brother-in-law, Charles McVey of North Andover; a sister-in-law, Marilyn McVey of Hyde Park; seven grandchildren, Melissa (Burns) Driscoll of Westford, Richard Burns of Medford, Jeff Tucceri of Tewksbury, Jennifer (Tucceri) Magary of Swampscott, Robert McVey Jr., Elizabeth McVey, and Catherine McVey all of Tewksbury; four great grandchildren, Ava, Ella, and Jeffrey Tucceri, and William Driscoll.
Her Funeral Mass was Monday, September 17th in St. William Church, 1351 Main St., Tewksbury followed by her burial at St. Mary Cemetery, River Road, Tewksbury. Memorial donations may be made in her name to Paul Sullivan Fund at Greater Lowell Community Foundation, 100 Merrimack St., Suite 202, Lowell, MA 01852.
