Obituary

Robert T. Pirelli, 60, of Scottsdale, AZ, died Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at the Sherman Home in Phoenix, AZ.

Born in Boston on January 27, 1952, he was a son of the late Gaetano and Mary (Thomas) Pirelli.

Mr. Pirelli grew up in Dorchester and resided in Quincy until moving to Franklin in 1990. After his retirement, he moved to New Mexico and then Arizona to be near some of his family.

A Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War, Mr. Pirelli received the Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Star and the Sharpshooter Badge.

Before his retirement, he worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service out of the Boston Harbor Hotel.

Mr. Pirelli was a member of the Franklin Elks Club. He was also active in the Franklin Youth Hockey Assoc. and was the voice of Franklin Hockey for many years.

He is survived by his son Shawn E. Pirelli of Dover, NH, his daughter Stacey L. Pirelli of Hull and was the father of the late Army SSG Robert R. Pirelli.

He is also survived by six brothers, Ed Androlones of Sebastian, FL, John Pirelli of Scottsdale, Guy Pirelli of Palm Springs, CA, Ralph Pirelli of Scottsdale, Joseph Pirelli of Boston and Jimmy Pirelli of Clinton and many nieces and nephews.

He was a brother of the late Chris Barbato.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Mass on Monday, September 17 at St. Mary’s Church in Franklin at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 5 – 8 p.m. in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, 131 Main St. (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Pirelli’s memory by making a donation to care packages to benefit our nation’s soldiers serving overseas to the Franklin Elks Club, 1077 Pond St., P.O. Box 447, Franklin, MA 02038 or by dropping off items directly to the container inside the Franklin Senior Center.
