Daniel F. Dunn Jr., age 70, of Burlington passed away on September 10th at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center following a short illness. He was the beloved husband of Eleanor M. (Imperato) and together they shared 46 years of marriage. Born in Salem, MA he was the son of the late Anita (LeBel) and Daniel F. Dunn.
Daniel was a proud graduate of St. Johns Preparatory High School in Danvers and received his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from North Eastern University then attended MIT where he earned his masters degree in aeronautical engineering. Shortly following his formal education he began his working career for Draper Labs in Cambridge as an electrical engineer and would continue to work for more than forty years. While at Draper Labs, Dan was very involved with the work and design of the Apollo Guidance Systems, and the Deep Sea Submerging Vehicle as well as many other important projects. Following his retirement he continued to offer his services as a consultant to Draper Labs and several other local companies. Dan also enjoyed working for and with the town of Burlington. He was the acting Chairman for the Cable Advisory Committee for over twenty years as well as Vice Chairman for the Information Systems Advisory Committee for the town. He will be greatly missed.
In addition to his wife, Eleanor, Daniel is survived by his sisters, Maureen Ruggiero of Billerica, Diane Doyle of Scottsdale, AL and Carol Dunn of Methuen. He is also survived by his nephews, Brian and Mark Ruggiero, grandnieces Grace and Samantha Ruggiero, grandnephew Christopher Ruggiero and several loving cousins.
Funeral services will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN, Saturday, September 15th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Barbara Church, 138 Cambridge Rd., Woburn, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home will be held on Friday from 4 thru 8 p.m. Services will conclude with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.
