Oliva L. Doyle, 85, of Fairhaven died September 11, 2012 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long courageous battle with cancer.
He was the husband of Theresa (Ponte) Doyle.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Charles L. and Coranna (Saulnier) Doyle, he lived in New Bedford before moving to Fairhaven in 2004.
Mr. Doyle was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.
He was formerly employed by Otis Air Force Base for many years until his retirement.
Mr. Doyle served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and later served 20 years in the U.S. Army Reserves and the Air National Guard. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, McMahon Council.
Survivors include his wife; 3 sons, Steven Doyle of Fairhaven, Michael Doyle and his wife Habiba and Robert Doyle and his companion Erika Boruta of Wareham; 3 daughters, Janet St. Gelais and her husband Konrad of Acushnet, Diane Safioleas and her husband Bryan, and Cathrine Doyle and and her companion Luis Perreira, all of New Bedford; a sister, Eileen Oliveira of New Bedford; 16 grandchildren, Stephanie, Elizabeth, Michael, David, Jonathan, Meagan, Brittany, Kelly, Joshua, Jesse, Ashlyn, Cody, Niko, Brandon, Jay and Draven; 12 great-grandchildren, Colby, Cali, Nicholas, Leila, Luke, Ayden, Tyler, Olivea, Aria Rose, Autumn Victoria, Jaiden and Tysen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Charles Doyle, Jr. and Robert Doyle.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park Street, New Bedford Friday, September 14th at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, September 13th from 4-8 PM.
