Marie (Kowalik) Madden, age 86 of Brockton, died September 9, 2012 at St. Joseph Manor following a period of failing health. She was the loving wife of Joseph E. Madden. Born and raised in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Alice (Troy) Kowalik. Marie was a graduate of St. Bridget’s High School in South Boston, class of 1944. She was formerly employed at Cardinal Spellman High School and had been retired from the Registry of Motor Vehicles for many years. Marie was a warm, loving wife, mother and grandmother who was devoted to her family. She was also an avid reader, and enjoyed gardening and walking.
In addition to her husband she is survived by her five sons, Joseph Madden Jr. of Bridgewater, Brian and his wife Maryellen of Milford, Mark and his wife Margaret of Bridgewater, Donald and his wife Susan of Carver and Daniel and his wife Brigida of Boca Raton, FL; 14 grandchildren; a brother Leo Kowalik of Medway and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Joseph Kowalik, Mildred Bergeron and Esther Alles and mother in law of the late Jane Madden.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Thursday 4-7pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Friday at 8am for a funeral mass in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Bridgewater at 9am. Burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 11:15am. Donations in Marie’s name may be made to St. Joseph Manor, Patient Activity Fund, 215 Thatcher Street, Brockton, MA 02302.
