GLOUCESTER: Lorenzo “Larry” “Pop” Susanno, Jr., 75, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 8, 2012 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House following an extended illness. He was the husband of the late Marilyn Ann (Thompson) Susanno, who died in November of 2004. They had shared forty years of marriage.
Born in Gloucester on December 1, 1936, he was the son of the late Lorenzo and Vincenza (Nicastro) Susanno. A lifelong resident, he spent his life working as a fisherman. His love for fishing did not end when he retired. On any given day, he could be found with a fishing pole in his hand on one of the many docks in Gloucester. He enjoyed a simple life. He loved shooting pool and playing cards and many nights could be found playing cards or Yahtzee with his daughters. A loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, cousin and friend to so many, he will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by three sons, Lawrence P. Susanno, Joseph M. Susanno and John D. Susanno; two daughters, Vincie A., wife of Kevin Burgess and Doreen A. Susanno; grandchildren, Paul Hubbard, Jonathan Moody, Jason Moody, Amber Hubbard, Mariah Verga, Meaka Camille; great-granddaughter, Neveah Moody; son-in-law, Matthew Verga; brother, Joseph Susanno; sisters, Josephine Testaverde, Mary Beaster, Phyllis, wife of Ronald Reardon and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Tammy Verga; brother, Leo Susanno; sisters Jennie Testaverde, Grace Lafond and Ida Corson and nephew, Jerome A. MacDonald, Jr.
His funeral service will be held on Thursday morning in the Calvary Cemetery at 9:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B102, Danvers, MA 01923. Arrangements are under the direction of the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester.
