Obituary

Lena Miller “Lee” Colson, age 91, died Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS. Lee was born July 31, 1921 in Greenwood, MS to the late Robert and Lena Aron Miller. Lee enjoyed music and played first chair clarinet in her high school and college bands. She served as a SPAR in the United States Coast Guard during WWII and was stationed in FL. Lee was an expert bridge player and belonged to several bridge clubs, she was employed as secretary for First Congregational Church in Needham, MA and as a secretary in the Needham, MA school system. Lee loved the Lord and her church family and was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Water Valley, MS.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 11, 2012 from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS. A graveside service will follow the visitation at 3:00 PM in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Water Valley with Rev. Harold Spraberry officiating.

Lee is survived by two sons, James M. Colson, III (Barbara) of Water Valley, MS and Douglas S. Colson (Catarina) of Franklin, MA; and six grandchildren, Kelly McCullough, Scott Hudspeth, Nicholas Colson, Gianna Colson, Jamie Colson and Evan Colson.

In addition to her parents, Lee was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, James M. Colson, Jr.; her daughter, Mary “Leigh” McCullough; her sister, Mary Surratt; and her brother, Oscar Miller.
