Edmund "Eddie" Govan

Edmund "Eddie" Govan, 92, of Anderson went to be with the Lord on March 26, 2011 at Miller's Merry Manor in Chesterfield following an extended illness.
He was born on December 22, 1918 in London, England. His foster parents were Henry and Emily Pantling.
He served in the British Royal Armed Forces during World War II. Following the war he came back to Holland in 1945 and worked for Phillips Electric Co. for 13 years. He married Mary DeGroot on August 1, 1946. In 1958, they decided to immigrate to the United States of America. They lived in Chicago for 3 years and then in Glen Ellyn. Eddie worked for Zenith in Chicago, IL from 1960-1971 till they moved to Anderson, IN where he worked for Anderson Power and Light with Anderson City Utilities until his retirement in 1983. He and his wife enjoyed camping. They spent 16 years wintering in Florida.
He was a member of the Church of God in the Netherlands, Chicago, and Anderson. He devoted his life to serving the Lord. He was very active on boards and committees. He loved woodworking and writing. He blessed his family with the legacy of his book titled, "The Power of Love and War."
Survivors included is wife of 65 years, Mary (DeGroot) Govan of Anderson; his 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Marvin Rockhill, Emily and Dennis Carroll, and Ruth and Jeff Pinyot; Sister, Sylvia Johnson of England; Grandchildren, Eddie (Vicki) Rockhill, Missy Rockhill, David (Stephenie) Carroll, Lori (Mike) Chandler, Elizabeth (Troy) Jones, Diana (Chris) Brown, Christopher Pinyot, Caroline Pinyot, Jonathon Pinyot, and Justin Pinyot; 9 Great-Grandchildren, nephew, Bernie and Ros Gray of England, and special friends, Glen and Lena Graham.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the nurses and staff for being so loving and kind to Eddie and his family during this time.
A funeral service will be on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 1:00 pm at Chesterfield Community Church of God with Pastor Wayne Sellers and Rev. Gerald Burnett officiating. Burial will take place in East Maplewood Cemetery. The visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Thomas Coram Foundation for Children (Eddie's home for 16 years) through the funeral home.
