Robert Leigh Land, age 84 of Anderson died Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Community Hospital in Anderson following an extended illness.
Robert was born November 28, 1926 in Anderson, IN to Herald and Lena (White)Land.
Robert was a school bus driver for 32 years and employed by Indiana Department of Weights and Measures 30 years before retiring in 2006.
Robert served in the US Army during WW II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 212 in Lapel.
Robert was a former City councilman, Republican precinct committeeman, member of Lincoln Club and East Side Community Club. He loved the Anderson Indians and Purdue basket ball as well as the Colts. His biggest interest in last years was his four grandchildren's various activities. He was never happier than when spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Marian (Fowler) Land of Anderson whom he married April 2, 1948 in Anderson, his son Bruce (Kim) Land of Anderson, his brother, Don (Kay) Land of Clearwater, FL; 4 granddaughters Chelsea A. Land, Caitlin M. Land, McKenzie L. Land and Madison N. Land, other family members: Gerald Fowler, Ginny Foust, Don & Judy McMahon, Sylvia Szot, Ron & Vicki Fowler and several special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Sheller, brother, Frank Land, brother-in-law Bob Szot, mother & father-in-law: Adah & Marion Fowler
Services will be on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at Bethany Christian Church at 1:30 P.M. with Kent Stookey and Monty Foust officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the VFW Post 266 Honor Guard.
Friends may call on Monday, April 11 from 4-8 P.M. at Bethany Christian Church.
Memorial contributions may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
