James Virgil Summers
July 25, 1953 - April 12, 2011

Jim Summers died April 12, 2011, of a heart attack. He died while practicing the profession to which he had dedicated his life. He was a pharmacist who endeavored to instill confidence and a sense of well-being to those he served daily. His patrons will miss his selfless devotion to the service of others.

Jim was born in Plymouth, Indiana on July 25, 1953, to Virgil and Linda (Shultz) Summers. Jim resided most of his life in Anderson. Jim graduated from Anderson High School in 1971 and Purdue University in 1976, with a degree in Pharmacy.

He practiced Pharmacy for CVS for 34 years and he was currently employed with Marsh pharmacies.

Jim was an avid golfer and some of his best memories were experienced on Edgewood Golf Course. Many good times were spent in the clubhouse with golfing buddies as they compared their scores or cheered for a Purdue game. Jim was also a gifted poet and he enjoyed fishing.

Jim's work ethic and his love of family and his community were unrivaled.

He leaves to cherish his memory and to deeply mourn his untimely passing his beloved sister, Sandra, his sons Wesley Summers, Evan Broderick, Ryan Broderick and the mother of his sons, Cynthia Broderick Summers. He also leaves behind many friends and colleagues who will miss his quick wit, his spot on impersonations and his ability to bestow the gift of laughter.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, several aunts and uncles and a special friend Tom Batler.

A celebration of Jim's life will be held at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service on Monday, April 18, 2011 at 6:00 P.M. friends may visit 2 hours prior to the service with family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Mary's Catholic School and the American Heart Association.
