Obituary

John M. Santiago, 70, of New Bedford died September 5, 2012 unexpectedly at Newport Hospital.
He was the husband of Martha B. "Marti" (Brewster) Santiago.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Maurice J. and Mary V. (Valles) Santiago, he was raised in Marion and lived in Wareham before moving to New Bedford.
He was employed as an accountant, real estate agent and real estate appraiser for many years until his retirement.
Mr. Santiago was a member and vice president of the Oak Grove Cape Verdean Cultural Center and a volunteer for the American Red Cross. He enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking, traveling, listening to music and watching the New York Yankees.

Mr. Santiago served in the U.S. Army and later with the U.S. Army Reserves for 29 years until his retirement as a master sergeant.
Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Todd Santiago and his wife Claudia of Michigan and Michael Reuter of Pennsylvania; 3 daughters, Susan Sylvia and her husband Bruce, Roxanne Fletcher and Dawn Santiago and her companion Daniel Sylvia, all of New Bedford; a sister, Margaret Machado of Sacramento, CA; 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
He was the father of the late Robin Santiago-Michaud, Maurice "Moe" Santiago and Jon Jon Santiago.
His Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 10:45 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Massachusetts National Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Oak Grove Cape Verdean Cultural Center, P.O.
