Huston, Shirley Rosaella of Anderson, Indiana passed away on July 24, 2011 at age 74. She is now finally at rest after a lengthy illness. Shirley was born in Indianapolis to Roy and Celesta Woods. She was adopted and raised by Bill and Ruth Jones. She lived most of her childhood in Terra Haute, Indiana. The family eventually moved to Anderson where Shirley attended Anderson High School. There she met the love of her life, Arlie R. Huston, her husband of 57 years. Arlie survives her. Shirley and Arlie were married on March 6, 1954 and were blessed with her most precious gift, her family of four children, and many Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.
Shirley loved music, as a child she learned to play the piano and the accordion. She was proud to be a mother and housewife. She enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. It was not uncommon for many visitors to leave Shirley’s house with a takeout box of food to enjoy on their way home. She loved to stay up late at night to watch old movies. In her later years, Shirley loved to go to the casino and spend time with her daughters and Granddaughters. One of her proudest moments came on March 7, 2007, when she and her husband Arlie were honored with a reception in celebration of their 50 years of marriage by their children. Shirley was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Besides her husband Arlie, she is survived by three of her children: Winona (Jeff) Powell of Saginaw, Michigan, Sandy Harper (Don Arney) of Poland, Indiana, along with Herb Huston (Special Friend Cindy Smith) of Mt. Vernon, Illinois and daughter-in-law (Sherry Huston) of Centralia, Illinois. Grandchildren include: Sarah (Powell) and Tim Boyce, Katelyn (Powell) and Mike Odom, and Joe Powell, Carmen (Huston) and Levi Voss, Rachael (Powers) Wampler, Chris Powers and Alisha Madewell, Ben Huston, Molly Huston, along with Danny Aiman, Crystal, and Aaron Staton. Her Great Grandchildren are: Savannah, Mia, Audrey, Emma, and Carter. Her surviving siblings include her sister Ralphina (Jeff) Coppess of Anderson and Sharon Kay of Kentucky. A special mention is also made of her niece, Lilly Burcham of Indianapolis and lifelong friend, Rosalie Davenport of Terra Haute.
Shirley was predeceased by many birth and adopted siblings, including her best friend and Sister Barbara Scott of Indianapolis. Finally, Shirley is now reunited in heaven with her son Bill Glenn Huston and her Grandson Adam.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Edgewater Woods, Dr. Lynch-Jackson, Dr. Jetty, and the Cardiac Clinic especially Nurse Sherry, also Community Home Health Care and Hospice, especially Ginger, RN and Wendy Home Health Aide and also 5th Floor Nursing Staff.
The family will be greeting visitors from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Home in Anderson. Funeral Services will take place on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 1:30 pm at the funeral home with Eugene Helm officiating. A brief ceremony of her life at Maplewood Cemetery.
