Eric George Saltzmann

Eric G. Saltzmann, age 42, of Anderson passed on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at the St. John's Medical Center in Anderson following complications from a sudden illness.
Born September 30, 1968 in Anderson, he was son of Barbara Blinkinsop Douglas and Paul Wayne Saltzmann.
He was a 1987 graduate of Highland High School where he was member of the Mayor's City Youth Commission. He attended Anderson University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1991 with a major in Business Management and a minor in Political Science. While at Anderson University, he was selected as a Fellow to the Center for Public Service, was chosen for membership in the National Business Honor Society, National and Anderson University Dean's List and listed in Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. He was also a member of the Anderson University Debate Team.
He earned a Master of Arts degree in Political Science from Ball State University in 1992.
Eric continued his studies at the University of Toledo College of Law where he was granted the degree of Juris Doctor in May 1995. While there, he received the Burton Maddock Law School Scholarship, was technical editor on Law Review and recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award for Research and Writing and Administrative Law. He was a Law Clerk for Richard A. Waples, Attorney at Law, with the Indiana Civil Liberties Union in Indianapolis from May through August 1994.
Eric began his legal career in the Madison County Unified Courts in April of 1998 as a Public Defender in Superior Court Division III. Since 2007, he served in the Madison County Prosecuting Attorney's Office as a Deputy Prosecutor in the City Courts of Anderson and Elwood. He was a member of the Madison County Bar Association.
The legal profession, his family and friends and the love of music were key elements of Eric's life. He had eclectic musical tastes which ran the gamut from classical guitar to many styles of jazz, blue grass world music and rock. He loved to go to live musical performances and traveled to many parts of the United States to hear The Grateful Dead, Phish, Bela Fleck, Ravi Shankar and many others.
Survivors include his mother, Barbara Douglas and step-father Henry A. McLain of Anderson, father, Paul Saltzmann of Anderson, brother, Dr. Kurt Saltzmann, sister-in-law Kristin, niece Kathryn Rita, nephews, Michael Jeffrey and William Eric Saltzmann of West Lafayette, IN; step-sister Sharon McClintock of Anderson, step-brothers Michael McLain of Knoxville, TN and Stephen McLain of West Lafayette, IN; aunts Aloma Alford of Clearwater, Florida and Beverly Blake of Cornelius, Oregon; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, George and Etha Oldham Blinkinsop, paternal grandparents, George and Naomi Saltzmann, uncles Richard Blake and C.H. Alford, and step-sister Kathleen Jarvinen.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 4-8 P.M. and 1 hour prior to the service on Wednesday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 10, at 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Cremation will follow with burial at a later date at East Maplewood Cemetery.
