Obituary

Marcia Jeanne (Gillis) Fries, 70, died Sept. 4 in Halifax. Born on May 21, 1942 in Boston, she was raised by her mother Alice (Berrio) and step-father, the late Gordon "Skip" Shadrick of Holbrook. She was a graduate of Holbrook High School, Class of 1960 and attended Brockton Academy of Beauty Culture and had been employed by Braemoor Nursing Home as a cook and nursing assistant. Later she worked for the Hanson Police Dept. as a dispatcher and then as secretary for the Whitman Police Dept., retiring in 1997.
Mrs. Fries was a devoted wife and mother, her family and home were most important to her. She enjoyed reading, cooking, and doing crafts, especially counted cross stitch for which she received many blue ribbons at the Marshfield Fair. She also enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and New EnglandPatriots.
She is survived by her husband, William Fries, Jr., her three children, daughters Jeanne McDaniel and her husband John of Charleston, SC, Lisa Nugent of Ft. Davis, TX, and a son, David Whitney of Taunton. Mrs. Fries also leaves four grandchildren; Carlene Roberts of SC, Quinn, Matthew, and Aurora Nugent of TX, and two great grandchildren, Naomi and Spencer Roberts of SC. She is survived by her mother Alice St. Martin of Halifax, a sister, Alice Ritter of AZ and a sister-in-law Joan Gillis of Anchorage, Alaska. Mrs. Fries was pre-deceased by her brother, Allan Gillis and her father, the late Alexander Gillis. She was the former wife of the late Norman Whitney .Marcia's smile, her compassionate and loving personality endeared her to all who knew her. Never say with grief "she is no more", but rather say with thankfulness"she was".
Visiting hours from the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St., Rt. 106, Kingston, on Fri. Sept. 7 from 4-7PM. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home on Sat. Sept. 8 at 9:00AM and follow in procession to Evergreen Cemetery, Kingston for a Graveside Service at 10:00AM. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
