Robert A. Hyde
September 13, 1930 - August 31, 2011

Robert A. Hyde, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and uncle, age 80 of Anderson, died at Middletown Nursing Home on August 31, 2011, following an extended illness.

He was born September 13, 1930 in Cleveland Heights, Ohio the son of Almond S. & Alfa (Whitworth) Hyde. He graduated from Cleveland Heights High School in 1949 and Miami of Ohio University in 1953 with a B.A. in business. He was a member of the track team in high school and college. He served in the US Army from October 1953 to October 1955 in the transportation corps.
He married his high school sweetheart Nancy Slaymaker on June 12, 1953. She preceded him in death on May 22, 2011.

He began working at age 10 as a paperboy and continued until he went to college. He later worked in the safety suggestions and the personnel departments of Guide Lamp for 37 years before retiring in 1990.

He was a longtime and active member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and a member of the session.
He was a Boy Scout Leader, 4H Leader, March of Dimes Walk-a-thon coordinator and Republican Precinct Committeeman, Red Cross Blood donor, Junior Achievement leader, and from 2000-2006 a teenage abstinence instructor in area middle schools.
He enjoyed model railroad collecting and working in his yard, ice skating at May's Park, and snow skiing. He was involved with Sigma Phi Alpha Fraternity and attended many homecoming reunions at Miami University.

He is survived by his two children: Holly S. Conover of Middletown and William S. (Gloria) Hyde of Houston, TX; 6 grandchildren: Jeremy, Jessica, James, Jonathon, Christi and Misti; 8 great grandchildren Matthew, Madisyn, Emalie, Jacob, Lance, Hunter, Javon and Jaden; 2 step great grandchildren Christine and Ivy; niece Debbie Perry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Nancy, his daughter Robin Muterspaugh, grandson Jay Perry, brother David Hyde and niece Pamela Hyde.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at 5 PM at First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Ryan Rasmussen and Donna Madewell officiating.
