Vanis Ray Bush, Sr.

Vanis Ray Bush, Sr. age 94, resident of Chesterfield since 1943, died October 13, 2011 at St. John's Hospital following a brief illness.
He was born May 13, 1917 in the Broadripple section of Indianapolis, IN to Arthur J. and Leona L. (Kendall) Bush.
Ray graduated from Fairmount High School in 1937 and married Ruth Elsworth in 1940.
He served with the Pacific fleet in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946.
He owned and operated Double "R" Dairy Bar in Chesterfield during the 1950's, was a Prudential insurance agent during the 1960's and 70's and managed Ray Bush Real Estate business.
He was a member of the Chesterfield Christian Church, the Daleville Masonic Lodge; the Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite; the Heritage Foundation and the American Owners & Pilots Association. Ray loved to spend time with his family telling stories, fishing and traveling.
He is survived 2 sons: Phillip (Jane) Bush of Columbus, IN and Gil E. (Cindy) Bush of Chesterfield, IN; 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth E. (Elsworth) Bush; 3 sons Vanis Jr., Daniel and David. Also preceding him in death were his brothers Lee Bush, Carl Bush and Don Bush and sister Nettie Schlawig.
His funeral will be on Monday, October 17th at 10:30 A.M. at Chesterfield Christian Church with Ned Clark officiating. Burial will be in Bronnenberg Cemetery with military graveside rites by VFW Post 266 Honor Guard. Friends may call Sunday, October 16 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Masonic Rites by Daleville Masonic Lodge # 730 at 5:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be given to Chesterfield Christian Church.
