Obituary

Joseph A. Cirella, 95 of Medford, died Monday after a brief illness in the Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Medford, MA.

Born in Reggio Di Calabria, Italy. Son of the late Annuziata (Latassa) and Michael Cirella. He moved to the United States at the age of six first to Boston then to Magnolia. Joseph was a 1936 graduate of Gloucester High School. Upon his marriage in 1950 he moved to Medford. Joseph was a self-employed Barber at the Hotel Commander in Cambridge. He styled hair for the Harvard students and celebrities such as John Glenn and Actor Timothy Bottoms of the movie “The Paper Chase” and others. In later years he was employed by Ames Safety Envelope in Somerville and the U.S. Post Office in Boston. He was a late U.S. Army veteran of WW II from 1942—1946 as a Corporal. Joseph was proud of his children and encouraged them to move forward. He was steadfast, strong, supportive and dedicated to family with fondest memories of life near the ocean and seashore with family and friends throughout the years. Joseph and his late wife Rose loved entertaining people and accompanying family to many celebrations and social gatherings. He had an appreciation of good food, music and shared it with others. In his senior years he enjoyed going to Foxwoods Resort, the Senior Center, driving his car and being by the Oceanside especially in Magnolia and Rockport. Joseph was a former communicant of St. James Church in Medford for many years and had special devotion to St. Joseph. He will be missed by family, friends and all who knew him. Beloved husband of the late Rose L. (Centrella). Devoted father of Michael J. and Phyllis A. Cirella both of Medford and the late Anthony J. Cirella. Brother of Marion Cirella of Magnolia, Anthony Cirella and his wife Mary Lee of Natick and the late Mary Malloy and Lawrence Cirella. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD Friday at 10:30 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford, at 12 Noon. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
