Obituary

Samuel L. Collins, 90, died Dec. 19, 2011, at Bethany Pointe in Anderson, IN.

SL was born August 29, 1921, in Cornersville, TN the only child of the late Lissie Mai (Harrison) and James (Joe) Elmer Collins. He spent his childhood and early adult years in Marshal County, TN, moving to the greater Louisville, KY area in 1942. Drafted into the US Army in 1943, he served in the European Theatre until his honorable discharge in 1946.

He married Mary Dean Haislip March 8, 1941, in Athens, AL. The family celebrated their 70th anniversary this year. To their union was born Samuel D. Collins.

A 37 year employee of the Transit Authority of River City in Louisville, KY, SL started his career as a street car driver and retired in 1984 as the Superintendent of Transportation.

Until moving to Anderson, IN in 2003 to live nearer his family, SL attended the New Albany, IN First Church of God where he served as Sunday School Superintendent.

SL is survived by his wife, Mary, son and daughter-in-law, Sam (Sharon) Collins of Anderson, IN, grandsons, Jeff (Jeanie Han) Collins and Scott Collins (Ashley Anstaett), all of Indianapolis, IN. Also surviving are extended family, Marie Harrison, Virginia Simmons, Larry and Jannifer Rice and family, Larry and Beth Rozell and family, Jim and Carol Lynne Usher and family, John and Nancy Howard and family, Steve and Jeanne Quam and family, Rod and Mona Carroll and family, Keith and Melanie Musser and family.

Memorial Services will be held at Rozelle Johnson Funeral Home, 229 South Rangeline Road, Anderson on Friday, December 23 at 10:00 AM. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 23 from 4:00-6:00 PM and 1 hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Anderson University, 1100 E. 5th Street, Anderson, IN 46012 or the charity of your choice.
