TEWKSBURY: Nancy V. (Leland) Billings, age 71, a former teacher and cheerleading coach at Tewksbury Memorial High School, died Sunday, May 23, 2004 at the Winchester Hospital.
She was the wife of Richard O. Billings, with whom she would have celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary on June 16th.
Born in Melrose on May 10, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Everett B. and Isabelle (Horne) Leland.
Mrs. Billings was raised in Malden.
She attended Malden schools and was graduated from Malden High School in 1952. Mrs. Billings attended Boston University, where she received her B.S. degree in Education.
She was a resident of Tewksbury for the past 43 years.
Mrs. Billings was a communicant of St. Dorothy’s Parish in Wilmington.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed for over 30 years as a health science and physical education teacher at the Tewksbury Memorial High School and the Tewksbury Junior High School. In addition, Mrs. Billings served as head coach for more than 25 years for the Tewksbury Redmen Cheerleading Squad.
She enjoyed many activities including skiing, cruising in the Caribbean, traveling to North Conway, NH and spending the summer at her home on Long Beach in Rockport. Mrs. Billings was a member of the Penguin Ski Club of North Conway, NH.
Besides her husband, she is survived by 1 daughter; Deborah A. Billings of Tewksbury; 2 sons; Richard L. Billings and his wife Gail (Schuleter) and Daniel P. Billings all of Marblehead; 1 brother; David P. Leland and his wife Arlene(Brady) of Marblehead; 3 grandchildren; Meaghan, Jennifer and Christopher Billings; her nephew; Timothy D. Leland. Mrs. Billings was the aunt of the late Matthew A. Leland.
Calling hours Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the FARMER & DEE FUNERAL HOME, 16 LEE ST., TEWKSBURY. Her funeral will be held Friday at 9 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Dorothy’s Church, Main St., Rte. 38, Wilmington. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery.
