JACQUELINE "JACKIE" (DYKEMAN) BROWN, 86, a lifelong resident of Hingham, passed away on Aug. 18th, 2012. She attended West School in Hingham, graduated from Thayer Academy in Braintree and the Mass. College of Pharmacy in Boston where she met her late husband, Alfred W. Brown, Jr. For 30 years, Jackie and Al owned and operated 'Dykeman's Pharmacy', in Hingham Square which was founded by her father, Jack Dykeman.
Jackie was a former member of the Hingham Yacht Club, the Cohasset Golf Club, the Cummaquid Golf Club and the Wompatuck Club. She played on both the South Shore Golf League and the Cape Cod Golf League. She also was an avid duplicate bridge player. Having come from 9 generations of Cape Codders, Jackie spent a good part of most summers in Dennis playing golf and enjoying Corporation Beach with her “beach” friends. She actively supported her children's activities and her house was always full of their friends.
Wife of the late Alfred W. Brown, Jr., she leaves her 3 daughters; Deborah Ricci of Harvard, Betsey Brown of Yarmouth and Jacqueline McCarthy of Hingham. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Karl, Stephen, Kelley, Kristin, Sara and Alfred; and great granddaughter Alexis. Jackie was predeceased by her son, John D. Brown.
A Memorial Service will be conducted on Friday, Sept. 14th at 1 PM at the New North Church, One Lincoln St., Hingham, MA 02043. Rather than flowers, donations in Jackie's memory may be made to the Dennis Memorial Library, 1020 Old Bass River Rd., Dennis, MA 02638-2523 or the New North Church. The interment is to be private.
