Whitman – Marjorie A. (Reed) Duquette 86 died Friday August 31 after a period of failing health. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard Duquette Sr.
Born and raised in Whitman she was the daughter of the late Edward E. and Marjorie E. (Rose) Reed and a graduate of Whitman High School, Class of 1944. For many years she had worked as a switchboard operator for New England Telephone.
As a longtime and active member of the Whitman community, Marjorie had been a member of the Lions Club and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Whitman Legion. She had been communicant of the All Saints Church of Whitman where she and her husband had married in 1951 and had remained active, joining in the church clubs.
She was a loving and devoted mother, and while her boys were in school she had been a familiar face as a volunteer for the classroom.
She enjoyed travel and camping with her family and friends.
She is survived by her loving son Peter Duquette of Marion and her sisters Joan D. Reed of East Bridgewater and Dorothea Harris and her daughter Ann of Marion. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law Robert and Jospeh Duquette and her sister-in-law Annette Maher as well as many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Richard Duquette, Jr.
Her services will be held Friday September 7 at 11 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 10-11 AM.
