Thelma C. Schmalz of Pembroke, MA passed peacefully into eternal life on Sunday, September 2nd, 2012 after a short illness. Thelma was born in Keene, NH on March 23rd, 1926 to Edward and Nora Pregent. Devoted wife to the late Albert E. Schmalz. Dear sister to Clifford and his wife Nickie and Richard and his wife Janet all of Keene, NH. Also the sister of the late Veronica Barcome and George Pregent. Loving mother of Wayne Schmalz of Rockport, MA, Christopher Schmalz and his wife Susan of Marshfield, MA, and Leisa Norton and her husband Charles of Pembroke, MA. She was also mother to the late Wendy Young and Baby Laurie Schmalz. Thelma was a devoted grandmother and was fondly known as “MiMi” to Leah, Jessica, Austin and Ashley Norton, Vanessa, Zachary, and Rebekka Schmalz. Also, Amy Schmalz and Stacey Mackiewicz. She had one great granddaughter Savannah. She will be greatly missed by all including her devoted companion, “Ripley” a 12 year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever that remained continuously by her side. Thelma, or Dolly as she was referred to by her siblings, or “Big Thel” by her sons was a two time breast cancer survivor that always had a smile on her face and lived life to its fullest.
Visiting hours will be held at the MacDonald Funeral Home 1755 Ocean St. Rte 139, Marshfield on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 from 4 to 8 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, September 6, 10:00 AM at St. Thecla’s Parish in Pembroke, MA.
Interment in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 12:30 p.m.
Donations may be made in Thelma’s name to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Breast Cancer Organization and the Scituate Animal Shelter.
