Obituary

Jackie Lee Clark, 80, of Irwin County died Sunday, September 2, 2012, at Osceola Nursing Home in Ocilla, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, September 4, at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Irwin County with Rev. John Gibbs, Rev. Virgil Vickers and Dr. Danny Ray officiating. Interment will follow in Brushy Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Monday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Mr. Clark was born June 5, 1932 in Irwin County to the late Rev. Semer H. and Mary Frances Myrick Clark. Living in the community all of his life where he was a farmer, he was a 1950 graduate of Ocilla High School and was named Senior Superlative Most Dependable. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where he was a deacon and sang in the choir. Mr. Clark was a former member of the Young Farmers and was named Irwin County’s Young Farmer of the Year in 1959, a member of the Irwin County Quartet, Flint River Campers and the Bernhardt Singers. His family was named Farm Home Administration’s 1974 Farm Family of the Year. He enjoyed fishing and camping.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Peggy Alday Clark of Ocilla; Children: Dale and Lamar Purvis, Dena and Gary Nelms, all of Ocilla, Donna and Danny Thompson of Fitzgerald, Debbie Walker of Ashburn, LaWanda Green of Ocilla, and Greg and Bonnie Lindsey of Macon; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 27 years, Helen Henderson Clark and a brother, Ottis Clark.
