
LOWELL—Alice Holden (Mahoney) Roy, 71 years old, wife of Francois R. Roy, a lifelong resident of Lowell, died Thursday at her home, after a long battle with cancer. She was the wife of Francois R. Roy, with whom she celebrated their 48th anniversary in November of last year.
She was born in Lowell, on February 19, 1933, a daughter of the late John P. Mahoney, funeral director, and Mabel C. (Holden) Mahoney. She attended the Oakland Grammar School and graduated from Immaculate Conception Grammar School, Notre Dame Academy. She also attended Lowell State Teachers College and Lowell Commercial College. She had been employed as a Civil Service Worker at Fort Devens, the Internal Revenue Service and Edith Nourse Rogers Hospital.
She was a lifelong communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church, and held membership in the Holy Rosary Sodality of that parish, and the Academy of Notre Dame Alumnae.
Surviving her besides her husband are a son and daughter-in-law: David J. and Constance Roy, of Tewksbury; two daughters and a son-in-law: Katherine M. and Robert Ward, of Lowell; and Lisa M. Roy, of Lowell; seven grandchildren: Melissa Ward, Laura Ward, Elizabeth Ward, Stacey Roy, Alexa Roy, Haleigh Roy, and Sierra Roy; a great grandson: Garrett Piper; one aunt: Alice Fahy, of Chelmsford; also many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late William F. Roy and sister of the late John W. Mahoney, former Lowell funeral director.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM on Sunday, May 23rd, at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street. (Rte. 38). Her Funeral Mass to be offered Monday, May 24th, at 10:30 AM at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Hospice, Greater Lowell VNA; P.O. 1965; Lowell, MA 01853. Services will be conducted by her nephew John J. McNamee, Jr.
