Pauline J. Merritt
December 16, 1924- February 11, 2012

Pauline J. Merritt, 87, of Anderson died on February 11, 2012 at Meadowbrooke Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.

She was born on December 16, 1924 in Anderson, Indiana.

She was the Assistant Psychological Services and Director of Health Services for Anderson Community Schools for 36 years.

She was a 1942 graduate of Anderson High School and a graduate of St. John Hicky Nursing School in September of 1946.

She served on the Madison County Crippled Children and Adults, Inc. board and where she served as Case Service Chairman, Secretary, and Camp Chairman; United Cerebral Palsy where she served as Case Service Chairman and Secretary; Member of Community Service Counsel, Family of Children Service Board, Child Protection Team- Welfare Dept., Harter Trust, United Faith Housing Board, Isabel Harter House- Admission COM., Madison County Comprehensive Health Planning Council, Red Cross- Nurse Volunteer, Mayor's Commission- Project Good Neighbor, Head Start Policy Council, Council on Adolescent Pregnancy, Chairman- School Blood Donor Program, Medical Advisory COM.- Madison County TB Assoc., Ladies Auxiliary Anderson Police Department, Ladies Marine Corp. League, Lady Elks, Past Member- Delta Theta Tau Sorority, Chairman- School Health Council, Epilepsy Board of Directors, Madison County Humane Society, President of the Madison County Nurse's Assoc., UFW Auxiliary, Grandview Ladies Golf League, Ladies Tuesday Bowling League- Brown's, YWCA volunteer, Madison County Retired School Administrator's, The Friendly Bridge Club- very special friends, Grandview Ladies Social Club, and numerous bridge and hand and foot clubs.

She is survived by her nephews, James ( Lorrie) McCord Jr., Garry (Debbie) McCord, and Clifford (Misty) McCord all of Anderson, and Mike (Janet) Castor of Albion, IN; a niece, Pamela Smith of Anderson; 2 special goddaughters, Linda (John) Perkins of Muncie and Sandra Hoover of Muncie; The Merritt Family that she dearly loved and many close friends including Charles Anderson family- Robert and Judy Platz, Chuck Anderson, and Barbara Gentry, and several great nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her father, Harvey Castor; mother, Martha (Southworth) Benbow; step-father, Garland Benbow, a wonderful husband, Robert G. Merritt; a sister, Patsy (Castor) McCord, a brother, Edward Castor.

Services will be Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 10:30 am at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Pastor Donna Goings officiating. The burial will take place in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.

The visitation will be on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 from 4:00-8:00 pm at the funeral home.
